How Work Works - UNESCO
How Work Works - UNESCO
As part of `How Work Works` in topic this term, the pupils in grade 2 have been researching different professions and looking at what it means to work and be employed. On Wednesday 14th February, both classes were paid a special visit.
Mrs Yorozu, who works for UNESCO, came into school to talk to the children about her job and what UNESCO does around the world. She explained that she helps to promote and encourage literacy programs to help adults and children to learn to read and write. The children were interested to hear about her travels, especially to countries such as Mali, Egypt and Indonesia to name just a few.
Mrs Yorozu kindly gave a presentation outlining her work with UNESCO and how the organization is striving to help people to learn to read and write. It was a humbling experience to learn that Mali had a literacy rate of only 26.2% in 2006 and women only 18.2%. However the good news was that UNESCO was doing many things to improve these statistics.
On behalf of both classes and Phorms Hamburg I would to thank Mrs Yorozu for taking the time to kindly talk to us about her job.
