Learning Level Survey (KERMIT)

The independent Institute for Educational Monitoring and Quality Development (IfBQ) in Hamburg regularly monitors the learning development of Hamburg's school students.

For this purpose, all students in Hamburg take part in a standardized test. The questions are based on the educational standards for secondary schools in German, English, Mathematics and Natural Sciences which were formulated by the Standing Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs (KMK). The children are asked to complete a mixture of easier and more difficult tasks, which have previously been trialled in a complex procedure. The order of the tasks in the test booklet is independent of the level of difficulty; simpler and more difficult tasks are alternated with each other.
