Media Literacy at Phorms Gymnasium

Our campus places great emphasis on the continuous development of digital media literacy in both German and English. What makes us particularly proud: Media education at our grammar school is perceived and valued by the school community as being of especially high quality.

 

According to a recent survey among fifth-grade students, 89% of our children feel confident in independently recognizing the risks of digital media use and making conscious decisions about whom to share personal information with. The focus is on using the internet in a safe and reflective way. We encourage students to critically question content and assess the reliability of digital sources.

 

By grade 5, around 90% of students already understand the basics of simple programs and begin developing their own games. This knowledge is systematically expanded in the higher grades. Our students learn to use digital tools in a solution-oriented way and to handle technical challenges independently—something that, according to the survey, 82% already do very successfully.

At our Hamburg campus, we actively prepare children and young people for the ongoing digitalization of their world—in alignment with the resolution of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs on “Media Education in Schools.
