Our bilingual Daycare
Discovering the world together.

A warm welcome to our bilingual daycare centre, PhorMinis! Your child will find a warm, safe, and inspiring environment here, where they can naturally and playfully immerse themselves in the world of bilingualism. With our caring and attentive full-day care in both German and English and a high carer-to-child ratio, we ensure that your child feels comfortable and is well supported.

In our bilingual daycare centre, children learn best through play and experience.

The immersion method enables our children to learn both German and English in everyday life in an easy and playful way. This natural approach fosters language development and intercultural understanding among the children in our care. Our educational work is based on a holistic approach that considers the individual strengths and interests of each child. Creativity, independence, and social skills are nurtured, and a safe, caring environment is provided.«

What makes our daycare centre special?

1

Bilingualism through the immersion method

  1. Our experienced and qualified educators consistently speak in their own mother tongue, either German or English, allowing the children to learn both languages naturally.

2

Full-day care

With the day starting at 7am and pick-up available until 6pm, we offer families reliable full-day care for their children.

3

High carer-to-child ratio

Our high carer-to-child ratio allows us to meet the needs of each individual child and build a trusting relationship with the children in our groups.

4

Age-homogeneous groups

Age-homogeneous groups allow us to tailor our educational activities more effectively to your child’s needs and their developmental stage.

5

Active parent partnership

  1. We enable close communication and the sharing of information through the nursery app "CARE," regular parents’ evenings, and individual learning development meetings.

6

Healthy nutrition

For a balanced and healthy diet, the chefs from our regional organic caterer prepare fresh meals in our own kitchen every day.

Bilingualism

Bilingualism through the immersion method

The immersion method is based on immersing children in an environment where both German and English are used in everyday situations. In our bilingual Phorms daycare, this happens naturally as part of the daily routine. Your child gains more than just a head start in language and education; they begin to develop a global perspective.

Linguistic adaptability

Children in our daycare centre learn both languages intuitively; the same way they’ve begun to learn their mother tongue. They quickly adapt to different language environments, and we support the spoken language with actions, gestures, and facial expressions to make the process smooth and natural.

Early language comprehension

Through early immersion, children develop a deeper understanding of both languages. They not only learn vocabulary and grammar but also cultural nuances.

Enhanced cognitive abilities

Studies show that children who learn two languages early on are often more cognitively flexible and develop better problem-solving skills.

Immersion encourages children to appreciate and understand different cultures, as they immerse themselves in these worlds through the acquisition of language.

Federal Programme

"Language Nurseries: Because Language is the Key to the World"

The focus of this federal programme, funded by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women, and Youth, is the targeted linguistic support of children in internationally oriented nurseries. This allows us to add an additional specialist to our team, who focuses specifically on integrating language-based educational work into everyday activities, inclusive pedagogy, and collaboration with families.

Partnership in Education

Educational partnership between the daycare centre and parents

A strong partnership between parents and educators is crucial for each child’s development. It connects family and school, allows for open dialogue regarding the child’s progress and challenges, and promotes a clearer understanding of the child’s needs. Parent-teacher meetings, newsletters, and our information board for daily activities round off the communication. This partnership strengthens the trust and bond between parents, the daycare centre, and the children, and significantly contributes to the children’s positive development.

Important questions
about PhorMinis Hamburg

  • What kind of meals are provided on campus?

Our meals are balanced, regionally sourced, and certified organic. The trained chefs of our catering service “Bio für Kids” prepare the meals fresh every day in the school’s kitchen. The meals we serve are based on the quality standards of the German Nutrition Society. Each day, children can choose between two dishes (one of which is vegetarian) and a raw food option at the salad bar. Fresh water is available throughout the day. For lunch, there are also delicious and healthy beverage options such as herbal or fruit teas. The meal plan typically includes fish once a week and poultry or beef from organic farms twice a week. We do not serve any pork. Since we value community, the students and educational staff eat together. We place importance on good table manners and appropriate behaviour during meals. Afterwards, there is plenty of time for playing and running around outside during the lunch break.

  • How does the introductory process for preschool and Year 1 work?

Each child goes through an admission process, which varies slightly depending on the class level. This allows us to get to know the children better and learn more about their knowledge in core subjects as well as their language skills. For preschool (Reception) and year 1, the children complete age-appropriate tasks and play with other children of the same age.

  • We live abroad but are planning to move to Germany. How does the admission process work for my child?

For families still living abroad and unable to arrange trial days on-site, we offer an alternative admission process.

  • Do you accept the day care vouchers from the City of Hamburg?

With a day care voucher from the City of Hamburg, most of the costs for our day care centre and preschool will be covered by the city. The parental contribution is calculated individually depending on how many hours your child is cared for each day and your family’s income.

We are happy to help you.
