We are delighted to share some wonderful news with the entire Phorms community: Phorms Hamburg is part of the European Mission STEM project, which is funded by the European Union with a total of 250,000 euros. Approximately 40,000 euros of the grant is expected to go to our Hamburg location.

Together with our project partners—the GoInno Institute, Foley’s School in Cyprus, and MIND gGmbH —the Central Hessian Institute for Sustainability and Diversity, which is leading the project—we will be working over the coming years to develop innovative STEM learning formats for students in grades 5 and 6.

What is Mission STEM all about?

The project is aimed at students in grades 5 and 6 and seeks to inspire young people’s enthusiasm for mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, and technology in a playful, hands-on way and without pressure to perform.

Participating schools serve as European “Mission Bases.” In small teams, students develop creative STEM missions with local and cultural relevance during regular class time or as part of project weeks. These missions are then exchanged with partner schools across Europe and worked on there. Through asynchronous exchange and the use of appropriate methods, the missions can be solved collaboratively regardless of language barriers.

The Role of Phorms Hamburg

Phorms Hamburg brings its many years of experience in Project-Based Learning (PBL) to the project. Our role is not only to handle the practical implementation but, in particular, to contribute our expertise in project-based pedagogy to the development of the overall concept.

Since Project-Based Learning is already an integral part of our educational approach, Mission STEM ties directly into our existing teaching practices. For our teachers, this does not mean a fundamental shift in methodology, but rather an exciting expansion of existing teaching formats and the opportunity to engage even more intensively with European partners.

As early as the coming school year, the first students in grades 5 and 6 at Phorms Campus Hamburg will begin working on the missions and networking with the European partner schools.

We look forward to working with our international partners to develop new approaches to STEM education and to further expand European cooperation in the field of education.
