Choosing a career or course of study is one of the most important turning points in a young person's life. At Phorms Gymnasium Hamburg, we support our students early on and continuously along this path – complemented by the international outlook that is part of our profile as a bilingual Gymnasium. We teach key future skills and create diverse opportunities for students to gain their first practical experience through projects, competitions, and internships at home and abroad, preparing them optimally for their own future.
The three-week work experience placement for Year 9 usually takes place in April/May. It gives students a realistic insight into the world of work and connects classroom knowledge with practical experience.
Phorms Hamburg partners with TU Hamburg through the Young Talent Campus (Nachwuchscampus), a program that introduces students to technology, research, and science at an early stage. Just how close this connection is shows in the results: several former Phorms students are now studying at TU Hamburg.
Already in the science subjects, students learn to apply scientific methods to document experiments and to write corresponding lab reports. They continue building on these skills throughout their entire school career.
Alongside academic work itself, particular focus is placed on diligence and perseverance.
The step-by-step development of methodological and learning skills follows the applicable curricula and is anchored accordingly in the subject curricula; the respective subject leads oversee its consistent implementation.
In the subject Politics, Society and Economics (PGW), economic topics are firmly anchored in the curriculum – including managing household finances, how markets and companies work, and questions of globalization and Europe's economic integration

On September 4, 2026, class 10b from Phorms Hamburg visited the SMM maritime trade fair in Hamburg at the invitation of the German Shipbuilding and Ocean Industries Association (VSM). Amid ship models and conversations with industry experts, our students gained hands-on insight into the maritime economy – learning beyond the classroom.
